Lachnum on Juncus
Yannick Mourgues,
21-10-2020 00:44

Found today this very small Lachnum on Juncus (?: cf. the cut).
Ascus with croziers, IKI+ blue, 35-40 x 3-4 µm.
Paraphyses lanceolate, 0-10 protruding, 45x5 µm.
Spores 5,3-9,2 x 1,3-1,9 µm with Q=3-6,2 N=20.
Without (?) guttules.
Hairs with rouded apex, 90-110 µm long, 3-4 celled.
I don't see a clear solution...
Have you got an idea ?
Yannick

Re : Lachnum on Juncus
Not sure with Juncus but a monocot seems clear.
The hair points to Lachnum carneolum or L. tenuipilosum, but the former I only know from Poaceae (but Vesterholt 1994 reported it on Carex) and the latter has longer spores.

Re : Lachnum on Juncus
Thank's Zotto.
L. carneolum is the closest species but I have seen tha it's hairs are 1-celled.
Mine are 3-4 celled.
All the rest fits well with this specie.
To be sequenced too.

Re : Lachnum on Juncus
Yes, these hairs are very long indeed. The paraphyses look as if they hardly protrude beyond the asci. But thid id also the case in cf. carneolum from Serbia (21.VII.2018) with 70-80 µm long 3-septate hairs. I need to scan my old carneolum drawing for comparison.
A carnbeolum sequence exists (ITS+LSU, by Mangenot, CBS 231.54).
