Ascomycete on Conocephalum salebrosum?
Amadej Trnkoczy, 09-02-2021 18:42
Amadej TrnkoczyHi there,
Are these black 'perithecia' possibly a parasitizing ascomycete on Conocephalum salebrosum?
Unfortunately, I noticed these structures only after a long time after I took the pictures (they are heavily zoomed in). So, these pictures are all I have.
Thanks for your opinion or hint.
Sincerely
Amadej

Re : Ascomycete on Conocephalum salebrosum?
Hi Amadej
I have no idea what it is, but I've already come across something like that.
Maybe it's the same, only yours are definitely older.
A friend once sent me to check, I found nothing of the mushroom in it:

Similar are also on the site;
https://www.bryo.cz/index.php?p=mechorosty_foto&site=en&gallery=conocephalum_salebrosum&id=658
... so maybe it's part of Conocephalum ???

Re : Ascomycete on Conocephalum salebrosum?
Hi Mirek,

Thanks for your response. On both links you provided I see antheridial pads of the male thallus. This belongs to the Conochephalum. See my picture attached of the same thing on the same thallus and the link:

http://blogs.ubc.ca/biology321/?page_id=3358

Also the stalked archegoniophores of the female plants do not resemble these black pits and 'perithecia' on my pictures. So, I suspect they do not belong to the Conocephalum but are probably something different. Curious!

Hi Amadej
Thank you for the link. Fantastic photos!
My knowledge of lichens is quite limited, so I looked at your site with curiosity. Thanks to you, I learned something again :))
greetings
