Durella on Fagus

... unfortunately, my microscope camera broke down today, so I can only post a bad sketch.

I think it is a Durella from the Bavarian forest, on a decorticated area of a lying Fagus-log, initial phase.

With an old key of Zotto I come to Durella "faginea".

Two questions now:

1. Is my suggestion correct or totally wrong - and, if it is correct:

2. Is there a legitimate name for this "..."-taxon now?

Thanks and best regards, Lothar

Re : Durella on Fagus
Hi, Lothar,

I would suggest D. macrospora but I don't know D. "faginea".

Schöne Grüße

Hallo Lothar,

da bin ich auch bei Gernot. Hatten wir hier schon an Malus, Mikros finde ich momentan nicht.

LG Peter.

Re : Durella on Fagus

Hello Gernot and Peter,

thanks for your opinion - it is surely a strong argument if your opinion is the same :-)

In Zottos old key D. macrospora is keyed as iodine-negative - but in his folder I found a specimen "Durella macrospora IKI+", so this may be variable (?). Furthermore, the spores are a little bit small for macrospora (?). Maybe this is variable, too.

We will see if Zotto shares his opinion with you - if yes, I will be fully convinced :-)

Best regards and thanks again,

Lothar

Hi
yes, and the amyloid form of D. macrospora seems more frequent. So far we have 3 sequences of the amyloid but none of the inamyloid form.

Re : Durella on Fagus

Hello,

I found the same species today and sent Zotto a (private) mail before I looked in the forum here.

So I can add a few fotos here, though not the best quality.

Also I found an anamorph which I think belongs to this Durella, but this originated from another Fagus tre.

best regards,

Andreas

... vielen Dank, Zotto!

Ist denn dann D. "faginea" die jodpositive macrospora - oder noch was anderes?

Viele Grüße von Lothar

Hello,

just adding a foto of the collection mounted in Barals solution, showing the amyloid ascus pore and the exsudat in the hymenium.

best regards,
Andreas

Re : Durella on Fagus
o.k., and the lumps of exudate seems what I mentioned above. So no doubt D. macrospora s.l.
