Mollisia, Tapesia...??
Benito Carlos, 29-10-2010 16:29
Hello,

This fungus was found on dead wood.

The ascus is 55-60x6.5-7 um and have an apical ring (J+). The ascospores are fusiform and normally uniseptates but also there are without septa. Ascospores size:12x3 um.

Please, help me to determinate. I'm only beginner in studying ascomycetes.

Thank you

Hi

Something like Mollisia discolor/melaleuca perhaps. Then the spores should contain some small but distinct oil drops. The substrate looks a bit as if it falls rapidly dry when it does not rain?

Hi Zotto,

Thanks for your fast response. The spores don't have oil drops, and the photo is taken in dry conditions. The substrate is wood of Arbutus unedo.

Thank you

Was the fungus dry when you collected it or did you make the photo from dried material?

You can make the KOH-test (put an apo in KOH on the slide, or to the preparation) but I presume that it does not react yellow with KOH.

Did you look at the key in www.mollisia.de?
