Microthyrium sp. on Sorbus aucuparia bark
Peter Thompson, 17-04-2012 00:06
I found a small group of thyriothecia fruit bodies, (keying to the genus Microthyrium), growing on the bark of Sorbus aucuparia. The spores are 1-septate and hyaline, and appear not to have any cilia / hairs.

There does not seem to be a species listed in Index Fungorum growing on this substrate.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you,
Peter Thompson.

Re : Microthyrium sp. on Sorbus aucuparia bark
hello Peter

is it definitely a Microthyrium? there is an old record of a (undescribed?) Stomiopeltis species on Sorbus aucuparia from Yorkshire - see http://www.fieldmycology.net/FRDBI/FRDBIrecord.asp?strAssoc=Sorbus+aucuparia&strName=Stomiopeltis

some images might help if possible

best wishes

Chris
