Pyreno on Alnus glutinosa bark
Enrique Rubio, 11-05-2012 19:59
Enrique RubioDear friends:
I'm lost with this black pyrenomycete with valsoid perithecia (or pseudothecia?) inmersed under the bark of Alnus glutinosa branches. Ostioles are difficult to see in the transversaly cracks of the bark.
The cilyndrical asci seems to have an apical apparatus Mlz.  negative, but I'm not sure that they are unitunicate because the olive-brownish, multiseptate, transversally and obliquely septate ascospores.
Have you some idea?
Many thanks in advance
Enrique

Hola Enrique,
you always come with interesting fungi!
I suggest Dirithium as a possible genus for your find. Dirithium lividum has similar habit, asci and ascospores, you should check literature.
Cheers,
Jacques

Yes! I have just read Barr's paper on Mycotaxon and I think you are right. This fungus was previously collected in Spain on Pinus halepensis, Juniperus phoenicea subsp. eumediterranea, Pistacia lentiscus, Buxus sempervirens and, Rosmarinus officinalis (SIERRA, 2006).

Many thanks again, Jacques

This one is quiet interesting. I have never heard of Dirithium before...
