Mollisia agg ramealis
Viktorie Halasu, 22-06-2017 08:59
Viktorie HalasuHello,
I'd like to ask for your help with this Mollisia. With A.Gminder's key I arrived to no.40, but neither M. ventosa nor M. ramealis fit completely.

On water-soaked wood in a brook between spruce and beech forests, 620 m a.s.l. Apothecia cca 2 mm in diam., isolated to densely fasciculate.
Sp. 0-septate, OCI cca 4,
Croziers+, IKI+ bb,
KOH- (ectal excipulum turns greenish brown, but no visible pigment)
Paraphyses with long VBs
Medúlla = t. intricata, without those big crystals of M. ramealis (can they be present only in some apothecia?)
Ectal exc. = t. angularis, elongated cells 90° to surface, dark brown.

Thank you for any advice.

Re : Mollisia agg ramealis
Actually the spores of M. ventosa should rarely exceed 3 µm, but I see that Breitenbach & Kränzlin gave 2.5-3.5, and I would not hesitate to say M. ventosa to your sample. What else differs?

M. ramealis I would exclude, it has spores much over 20 µm long and an ectal excipulum at the margin running under an oblique angle, not vertical.

Yes, crystals are typical of M. ramealis, which does not belong at all in Mollisia.

Re : Mollisia agg ramealis
Thank you, Zotto.

Andreas wrote in his key, that ventosa should often have 1-3septate spores. I only saw one dead 1septate spore in the preparate.

Re : Mollisia agg ramealis
This depends on the abundance of overmature spores. Freshly ejected spores are always non-septate in M. ventosa.

Ah so.
Thank you very much.Â
