Hello there,

i know this mysterious thing is probarbly not an asco, but it might be an imperfect form of an asco. I have no idea in wich direction i should think (maybe even a rust?) It was growing on a cut of sambucus nigra. The stump was fermenting, i thought thats what it was, so called slime flux. But it has microscopic features of fungi and ofcourse sort of a fruitbody wich reminds me of rhizina. Anyone some intelligent idea? Sporesize length 45um

Kind regards Ismaël Wind

Re : no idea (imperfect i suppose)
It reminds me Pionnotes cesatii, rather common in spring here in Italy on Vitis vinifera where the sap flows out from pruning cuts. The spores are also similar. I don't know if there are some other species (maybe in Fusarium). As far as I know P. cesatii should grow only on Vitis. But never say never...
Try in this direction.
Regards
Mario
