Nectriaceae on Diatrype bullata
Hans-Otto Baral, 05-12-2008 16:41
Hans-Otto BaralHi together

I have here Diatrype bullata on which a Nectriaceae but also Hyalorbilia erythrostigma grows (, Luxembourg, Kockelscheuer, 11 mm thick branch of Salix cinerea). I thought for Cosmospora episphaeria or C. purtonii, but the spores are too large: *12-13 x 5.5-6.5(-7) µm, hyaline, roughly warted.

Perithecia are 0.25 mm diam, dry collapsing, the peridium in KOH distinctly lilac-violet.

I arrived at C. magnusiana which, howerer, is said to be restricted to Diatrypella after Amy Rossman. Perhaps it isn't a Cosmospora at all?

Thanks
Zotto

Hi Zotto,
I am working on the same species, growing on D. bullata, collected by Alain Gardiennet last month, I'm cultivating its anamorph.
Unfortunately I'm not able to reach to my data because my computer is out of order, I use my son's computer at present. As soon as possible I will reply here.
Cheers

Dear friends,
I did not still find my data, thus I began again.
I deliver you here the images of this species, the anamorphe in culture is Fusarium. This Cosmospora is not C. magnusiana because the obtained anamorphe is not Fusarium epistromum, who does not produce microconidia. It is other species and I think it is new in the Cosmospora genus.

Sounds interesting. Nectria seems similarly diverse as Orbilia

Re:Nectriaceae on Diatrype bullata
yes Zotto, according to Gary Samuels (com. pers.) there should be numerous new species to discover in the Cosmospora genus.
It is surprising that you have collected this species simultaneously with Alain.
I will let you know my study of this beautiful Cosmospora
Cheers

Re : Nectriaceae on Diatrype bullata
Recently I collected something similar to what seem to have found.

A kind of Nectriaceae on Diatrype bullate.

Spores uniseptate, pale brown, slightly constricted, verruculose, 10-13 x 5.5-7 ?m

Have you been able to identy your find?

Do you have perhaps some literature I could use to determine the species?

Thanks, Gerrit
