Lachnellula subtilissima
Yatsiuk Iryna, 09-01-2011 13:10
Yatsiuk IrynaHello, Forum!

Is that discomycete what I think (Lachnellula)? Could Lachnellula be collected on the wood of deciduous tree?

Apothecia stalked, 1-1,5 mm in diam, inner side yellow in dry condition, light pink after rehydration. Outer surface covered with hairs, which are covered with warts at least at the tops of the hairs.
Asci without croziers, apical pore blued in IKI, 45-50*4-5 um.
Spores with 1-3 oil drops(?), 7-9*2-2,5 um., fusiform.
Specimen was collected on the decaying (without bark) branch of probably Populus alba.

Best wishes,
Irina

Dear Irina

certainly not a Lachnellula which has a yellow-orange disc and is restricted to conifers. You need to show us the hairs, to see if it could be a Lachnum

Thank you, Zotto.
Here are hairs, but quality is poor:( Hairs are 45-65 um*5-6 um (at the widest part).

Hi Irina

yes, the hairs clearly belong to Lachnum. I suppose this is L. brevipilosum though your spore drawing with the droplets looks a bit strange. The disc is reddish because of age (drying or senescence), fresh apothecia are pure white. The reddening comes from oxidation of VBs which are very distinct droplets inside living hairs and paraphyses.

Thank you, Zotto.

I have looked one more time at the specimen with immersion lens and see that maybe it were not droplets, but just some pale areas in the spores.
It is very interesting to look at fresh specimens. I'm waiting for the field season!
