One more discomycete from Israel
Godorova Olga, 25-01-2014 20:11
Godorova OlgaThis one was found on a wet sand in a costal area. Fruiting bodies reached 4 mm. The spores broadly ellipsoid or almost spherical, about 12-15*12-12,5 mkm. The hairs are thick, short, dense and curved, reach 25 mkm in width.

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
This I consider an immature Scutellinia.

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
Thank you, Zotto. The spores and the hairs are going to get more developed and change their form too?

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
Spores get bigger and full of oil drops, perhaps also ornamented. Hairs I don't know, some species have short hairs when mature. Typical for the genus are the needle-shaped carotenoids  in the living paraphyses.

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
In the list of local species, that have already been found and studied here, there are two species of Scutellinia - S. crinita and S. trechispora. As I understand, S. trechispora does not fit, as her spores are spherical. And S. crinita has ellipsoid spores, but long and sharp hairs. As to the paraphises, I am afraid, my microscope is too weak to show such a precise thing as their inner structure.

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
But I saw at first glance these paraphysis contents on your photo and thought it must be a Scutellinia. I assume that in your country more than ten species exist. You need mature spores for identification.

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
I see. I searched now and found microscopy of more mature fruitbody of these. The spores are bigger, about 14-15*20-22 mkm, and ornamented. And the hairs are long and sharp. I looked at the Scutellinia crinita description, that I have, and the measures fit to that. Thank you again!

Okay, but your guess is nothing more than a guess, dear Olga,
please do not take it too serious, Scutellinia is anything else but fun!
Best regards,
Marcel

Re : One more discomycete from Israel
Thank you, Marcel. I'm just an amateur mushroom picker and studier. I don't have serious equipment for exact study and checking, so there are lots of species here, that I am able to identify only on a level of guesses and presumptions. There is always a chance, that I've been wrong. From time to time some of my samples get to the professional mycologists and get checked and identified on a serious level, but the professionals not always have a time for that. So meanwhile some sketches and guesses it's ok for me. :)

Adio Olga,

Don't listen Marcel, he is a poet !  :)   (Adio Marcel :) )
Scutellinia isn't fun, it's very serious ! The most beautiful genus all over of ascomycetes !!
Yes, I'm agree only with me, but it's a good beginning.

No, It's a joke.
But I use this message to ask you something : I study only Scutellinia and I have a lot of correspondents all around the world. I don't have from Israel. If you can collect, dry and send me some collections from your area, I'll be very glad !
Don't worry, it's not an obligation.

In the same time, I thank all which have sended or send me collections. Many thanks.

Beñat
