Orbilia aff luteorubella 071113 59 ?
Miguel Ángel Ribes, 06-05-2015 20:37
Miguel Ãngel RibesGood evening

I have this small (<700 µm diam.) pink-orange Orbilia growing in a herbaceous 9 mm diam. twig (with pentagonal profile on transversal cut).

Asci 8-spores, with the upper line of spores not inverted and the bottom line inverted, inamiloid, (41.0) 42.1 - 57.4 (60.2) x (4.3) 4.4 - 5.4 (5.6) µm; N = 25; Me = 48.3 x 4.8 µm.
Spores fusiform, slightly curved, with a long SB, (12.4) 13.2 - 16.1 (16.9) x (1.2) 1.6 - 2.0 (2.2) µm; Q = (6.3) 7.2 - 9.6 (11.9); N = 51; Me = 14.8 x 1.8 µm; Qe = 8.4.
Paraphysis cylindrical and not very clear.
Ectal excipulum with textura subglobosa-angularis, with a yellow external layer at margin.
Medullar excupulum not sure, but I think textura intricata.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Miguel-Angel

no no, look at the ascus apex: hemispherical and thick-walled. This belongs in subgenus Hemiorbilia and is O. vinosa. But this species was only found on woody substrate so far, with several hundreds of records.

What kind of vegetation do you have there, and what could it be? Pentgaonal could refer to Rubus fruticosus? Actually we had it a few times on that host.

Hi Zotto

Yes, very probably Rubus fruticosus, you are right.

Thanks a lot.

If you tell me the collection data I will take it in the monograph, though we have quite a lot from Spain, see below.

Ok, later I will sent you all the data. It is from Andalucía (South Spain)

Thank you.
