Fimicolous pyreno with hyaline dictyospores
Enrique Rubio, 19-02-2016 18:30
Enrique Rubio

Hi forum

Has anyone some idea about these very small (up to 100 microns), scattered, brownish, globose, papilate, perithecia (marked with white arrow) growing on old horse dung covering by algae and small mosses?

It is very curious the existence of few bitunicate  2-spored asci with white hyaline dictyospores. The material is well mature so I don't think it belongs to a a Pleosporales (i.e Pleophragmia or closely related genera)

Many thanks for your help again

Re : Fimicolous pyreno with hyaline dictyospores
I am probably barking up the wrong tree but I recall Norrlinia as something very similar (but on rotten Peltigera)

Hi Thomas

Is Norrlinia a genus of lichenised fungi?

Re : Fimicolous pyreno with hyaline dictyospores
no lichenicolous - at least those I have seen (but the dung is covered in green stuff so maybe not so far from growing on a lichen)

OK. Thank you

Norrlinia was my first impression too, for what it's worth. It's a striking genus that's hard to forget once you've studied it.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot

Do you know where I could found some literature about this genus?

Thanks

Hi Enrique,

here is a description of Norrlinia peltigericola based on its holotype: http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/cyberliber/59351/0074/002/0378.htm

I'll send you the original description of another Norrlinia species, N. medoborensis, in private.

Best wishes,
Gernot

Thank you to all for help me. I think Thomas was right because Norrlinia seems to be a good genus for this fungus closely related with N. peltigerae.

Norrlinia is a good idea. ¨Personally, I had thought at the genus Julella, or  else Thelenella, because it appears to be perhaps lichenized.
