I'd like to know your opinion on these small (0.2-0.4) broadly sessile, with a hymenium with olivaceous hues and a brownish black, not hairy, excipulum. It is possible they grew from a shield of hyphae, but I'm not sure. They were found on Carex leaves together with Caricinella species, at 1700 m.

Ascospores 1-septate even inside the living asci, without sheath. Paraphyses with some VBs covered by a greenish mucilagous covering. Ectal excipulum textura globulosa of brownish roundish cells,a s in the margin.

I have explored Scutomollisia, Hysteronaevia and other related genera of fungi on Cyperaceae but without success.

Could yo help me?

Thanks again

Re : On Carex
I think it is a Scutomollisia. I compared my drawing of Mollisia integromarginata cf., HB 5844.

From your scale I measure the spores as 17-22 x 3.2-3.6 µm, which is still wider than in my sample. Graddon says 12-16 x 2-2.5 µm.

But I saw strongly refractive VBs, while in yours I can hardly see them.

Re : On Carex

Hi Zotto

The strongly refractive BVs are absolutelly absent in my collection, even in young apothecia. But yes, it seems to be a good solution for my problem. Could these structures (marked with red arrow) of the fungus the scutum be?

Thanks a lot

Re : On Carex
yes, exactly.

Graddon has seen a vacuolar content but did not mention it.

Re : On Carex

Thank you, Zotto. Jesus is now collecting more fresh material for me. Tomorrow I'll study more young ascomata for to have a better idea of the paraphyses content.

I'll keep you informed

Re : On Carex

Hi Zotto

I could  study fresh material sent to me by Jesus, and I could see the greenish refractive content of the young paraphyses that seems dissapear soon. By the other hand they are allways covered by a greenish mucous amorphous substance.

So. it seems to be a good Scutomollisia and integromarginata seems to fit well with my fungus.

Thanks a lot

Re : On Carex
oh yes indeed. But I feel the apothecia are not in the best shape, perhaps the VBs are more stable when in optimum living state.

It's possible. But we have not material fresher than this
