Conidium in beetle gut
Andrew N. Miller, 23-02-2018 17:58
Andrew N. MillerDo you recognize this conidium?  Anything close to an ID would be helpful.

It is from the guts of Lenax mirandus, a beetle species known only from New Zealand that has been collected from galleries of Platypodine weevils (some of the ones that grow fungal gardens).

Thanks,
Andy

Re : Conidium in beetle gut
Dear Andy,

I can imagin there are lots of hyphomycetes out there with conidia of similar shape being +-5-septate. One example is Microsporum.
best regards
Martin

Thank you, Martin.  As you can imagine, trying to identify a fungus from a single conidium is difficult, but this is all we have from the beetle's stomach content!
