Bipolaris or drechslera?
Albert Ibars, 20-11-2018 12:54
Albert IbarsHi all.

I have difficulties to distinguish Bipolaris from Drechslera. I think these conidia are from Bipolaris sorokiniana, but I'm not sure. Somebody could help me?

Thank you

Albert

Substrat: Lolium perenne leaf.

Re : Bipolaris or drechslera?
THe two genera are indeed very close. Looking at Seifert et al. (2011) the chief (only?) difference is the mode of germination of the conidia:

Bipolaris: germinating from both ends (hence, one assumes, the name).
Drechslera: with multilateral germination.

Have any of the conidia in your collection germinated? I'm afraid I don't know B. sorokiniana.

Chris

Re : Bipolaris or drechslera?
Thank you.

I have these two photos. But can I know in any way if what can be seen is a germination or the conidiophore?
