Re : Unknown asco
You should search in the genus Hypocopra, Joop.

But I don't know  a species with this sporesize and a full length germ slit.

I also miss a stroma.

A photo of the ascus tip with Melzer's reagent would be useful.

Sincerely, Norbert

Hello Norbert,

I was also thinking about Hypocopra but also missed a stroma.
I will try to find another species and look for more specifics.

Thanks for the info I will ask David Malloch if he has some more info.

Joop

Re : Unknown asco
Hello Norbert,

David did send me documentation from Cain about Hypocopra, if you do not have it I can send it to you.
I do have a photo from the top of an ascus, is this one sufficient enough or do you need more?
Further investigation of the photos revealed that the germ slit does not run in the full length of the spore but between 8-10 um.

In my opinion if we take Hypocopra into account the measurements of the spores do correspond to H. parvula (species # 20) as indicated in New species of Hypocopra (Xylariaceae)' by J. C. Krug and R. F. Cain. But this species is described by D. Griffiths (1901) in  The North American Sordariaceae Mem. Torre Bot. Club, 11: 1-134 and I do not hold that document.

I also checked the genus Podosordaria but no comparison

Greetings,

Joop
