Oh this is superb! Exactly as we know the teleomorph from other samples. With its capitate paraphyses one might think that it might be described as an Orbilia in older times.
The substrate is unclear? Did you try to identify from the wood anaotmy or else? And I suppose the branch was exposed, not on the ground, as you say "young fallen tree".

Laurens:
in 2018 on Urtica (old stem) and on wood (hardwood)
in 2019 on old tree (Populus) lying on the ground and on a branch of a collection of unknown branches (thickness 5 cm) 30-50 cm above the ground.
Only hardwood present: Alnus, Acer, Quercus and Populus.

Ah, this is goods. It excludes a lot, with certainty Alnus and Populus. Important is now to look at a cross-cut, is the wood ringpored with large pores? Then it should be Quercus. But I assume it is Acer. This belongs to the 2019 sample?

Unfortunately the pieces of wood were so soft and brittle, they broke into small pieces and I'm out of material now ....

So this is either Quercus or Fraxinus. Can one genus be excluded for that place?
Fraxinus may have 3-rowed radial rays and the pores of the summertime look singly, unlike Quercus. But the bark looks like Quercus to me but could be Fraxinus as well.

Hi to all,
Recently I found also the teleomorph plus the anamorph of "Isaria friesii" on an Ulmus branch still attached to the dead fallen tree (Houten, prv. Utrecht, 8/11/2019). The teleomorph showed only the capitate paraphyses and some young asci (no ripe asci).This time no association with Melomastia mastoidea like earlier this year at the same site (see http://www.ascofrance.com/search_forum/56055 ).

1. Got a message from Laurens: both present, Quercus and Fraxinus. I didn't get new material of this wood.
2. On 25-11-2019 Laurens visited the same place. He also found Isaria friesii on a thick (30 cm) branch lying on the ground under Salix. He is sure this branch is also Salix.
3. Also got a "new" piece of unknown wood (collected by Laurens van der Linde, 25-11-2019, same place), see pictures:

Oh, this sounds difficult. No Quercus , Fraxinus or Salix. It could be Acer, if not something more exotic.

The trunk is broken through the middle at a height of 4 meters, the broken part hanging from the tree. The tree is almost dead.
(Laurens also thinks it is a poplar.)
