Hello,First of all ofcourse Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year for everyone! A few days ago I found these on a very deteriorated stump of Betula. Fb pale yellow, gelatinous, smooth (no hair), app.0,5 mm. Inoperculate. Asci 52-54,5 x 6,8-8,2, croziers +. 8 spored, biseriate. In Meltzer I saw no colouring other than the apical apparatus.
Paraphyses slender, not swollen at apex, length about the same as the asci, septated and often forked.
Both asci and paraphyses seemed filled, VB's?? It all disappeared in KOH 5%.
Spores fusiform, not septated, sometimes but not always with what appear to be very tiny guttules (one on each point). 7-11 x 3-4. I couldn't figure out the excipulum, apologies for that. The material (I tried several coupes) was "messy" if I may call it that way. Full, entangled and filled with .. VB?
Last thing: I don't know if I'm mistaken, but it looked like there was a gelatinous layer around the asci??
I hope someone can help me, I am very bad at the keys but my attempt (Ellis and Ellis) led me to Mollisia???? Thank you already very much!

this is really difficult to comment for me, although the pics are very good in any case.
Such a sessile fungus should rather easily be sectioned under the bino with a razor blade, the excipulum is actually essential. A rough guess woud be a hairless Hyaloscypha, if the excipulum is hyaline and non-gelatinized.
No VBs are in the paraphyses, there are only non-refractive vacuoles and some minute LBs.

Thank you for your response! I will place pics of the excipulum, these are the best I could get. I hope they will be clearer for you, for me as beginner they are very difficult to name. Globulosa-intricata???
I will search on hairless Hyaloscypha! Sometimes I find something (like now) of which I would really like to know what it is :). But if that's not possible so be it.

I would say angularis-prismatica :-)
So it is hyaline and the yellow dops I assume are lipid bodies. You could veryify this by adding KOH, they should resist, otherwise you would be right and they were VBs. I suppose they are inside the cells, not intercellular.
It is also better to use Lugol to avoid suppression of a red reaction, I assume you actually used Melzer as you say.
Still unable to give a name :-(

oops hahaha, got textura completely wrong then.. When I added KOH it all disappeared. I will use Lugol in stead of Meltzer, thanks for the advice.
