Calycellina on Humulus

                    Viktorie Halasu,
                28-11-2021 11:47

Hello,I'm trying to find a name for this small yellow Calycellina. Apothecia 170-280 um in diam., growing on Humulus lupulus stalk laying in leaf detritus, in a Reynoutria stand near some trees overgrown by Humulus. Somewhat wet locality shaded from draught. Soc. Hymenoscyphus humuli. Spores are measured in KOH in asci, it wasn't ejecting spores even when fresh.
There is Michel's collection of C. flaveola on Humulus, could it be the same? I don't know if the darkening of cell walls in excipulum with age is a common character in Calycellina or not. It was collected on 22. IX. 2021 and forgotten in the fridge, photos in KOH are from today.
Thank you in advance.
Viktorie

                Re : Calycellina on Humulus
                Hi Viktorie,
Your collection can be compared to mine. Your spores are a bit smaller (mine are 14-16 x 3-3,8 µm) but may be because of measurement on dead materiel ?
I did not notice the blackening of excipular celles you show.
I still tentatively name it C. humuli. It is rather common in the wet zone of Le Marais Poitevin when it's wet enough

                Re : Calycellina on Humulus
There are sequences of C. flaveola from two finds of Stip, but they differ by about 4.5%. One is very close to C. ulmariae and the other very close to C. fagina. No idea what heppened there.... One was on Pteridium, the other ?also

                Re : Calycellina on Humulus
                C. flaveola is different I think, and I do have the  project to have this species on Humulus sequenced ...
I haven't seen Stip's samples.

                Re : Calycellina on Humulus
                It is this one:
Calycellina flaveola SBRH 871, D, Saarland, Nonnweiler, Pteridium leaves, 03-VIII-16
Yes, must have done Guy, it is a comprehensive sequence.
Stip, do you have the ab1 of 836 at hand? I would like to check it regarding the few unknown positions. Then we know perhaps more exactly what's the matter here.

Aha, I have not seen the sequence, der hat er extrahiert wenn wir ihn aufgesucht habe in 2016
I will send the ab1
cheers, Stip

                Re : Calycellina on Humulus
                Hello all,
thank you for this interesting discussion.
Michel: Ok, I'll file it under "C. humuli nom.prov.". Hopefully next year I will find it again and have it sequenced, this material is too sparse and too contaminated by micros. Excipular cells were hyaline when fresh, the blackening appeared after 6 weeks in the fridge (not a surprise here, I too would change color significantly after such a treatment).
Have a nice day.
Viktorie
