Orbilia sp. similar to O. pseudoaristata?
Francois Guay, 23-04-2025 19:58
Francois GuayI found this interesting Orbilia sp. one year ago in Quebec, Canada, growing on deciduous wood. I haven’t identified it to species yet, and I was wondering if the microscopy I did back then is enough to do so.

Substrate: deciduous wood

-Spore 9.53–12.83 × 2.03–3.09 µm

-Asci IKI–

Here’s the link to the photos: https://www.inaturalist.ca/observations/214881781

Thanks for your help!

Re : Orbilia sp. similar to O. pseudoaristata?
The substrate is clearly bark, not wood, but you may have used the word to cover both.

The apical thickening is very prominent, so O. pseudoaristata is excluded. The spores resemble O. clavuliformis, or maybe O. clavuliaristata.

Re : Orbilia sp. similar to O. pseudoaristata?
Yes, I used the term wood to cover both, but next time I’ll be more precise and specify wood or bark. Thank you Zotto, I’ll compare with those two species.

Re : Orbilia sp. similar to O. pseudoaristata?
It is actually so that the aristata group prefers to grow on bark, as some other tolerant Orbilias also do.
