I would like to hear your opinion on this Scutellinia that I found in muddy soil in a subalpine meadow at an altitude of 1700 m. The marginal hairs reach up to 800 x 25 microns and they have 1-2-3 roots. The spores are mostly subglobular (1.1) and the ornamentation has rounded, rather low tubercles or warts. The ITS sequence does not match that of any other species deposited in GenBank.I am beginning to think that it might be Scutellinia hyperborea.

This collection seems very close to S. hyperborea, but my own collections have shorter hairs with a simple base... There is no sequence of this species to compare, so hard to be affirmative at 100%
I can test your sequence in my Scutellinia alignment and check if it corresponds to something.

As you say, S. patagonica could be a good answer despite the more rounded spores in this collection. And in fact, I have found more typical specimens of this species in the same area. We must try to understand the variability inherent in living beings.
