Hi Jean Pierre

do you have the fungus still fresh? Could you make a micro in water? Important would be to see the living paraphyses and their contents. Also we need some info on the excipulum. If you do not succeed with a section it would be helpful to have a photo on the exterior with oil immersion. Are the cells globose? pale brown?

The hymenium looks very mollisioid, but the apo stipe....

Re:genre?
The beforelast image shows apparently paraphyses. This is interesting because of the external granules.

As for the excipulum we need to know the texture, globulosa or prismatica. The fungus looks a bit encoeloid, like Encoelia fuckelii, but that has asci IKI-.

Re:genre?

This still looks interesting. If you wish you can send me the material. Best in dry state, I think this one does not loose important information.

Re:genre?
Hi Jean Pierre

sorry for late anwer. Your fungus arrived very well, fully alive. I made a drawing and some photos. Possibly the fungus is related to Encoelia fuckelii, but I am not sure and I am unable to identify it with a described species. With my database by searching for Salix I compared Helotium erumpens Velen. 1934: 184 which Svrcek (1985) compared with Calycina vulgaris/sordida, but I feel your fungus is something else, at least it is no Calycina.

E. fuckelii has crystals and inamyloid asci, also allantoid spores and darker apothecia.

Very interesting is that the spores lie in groups in the medium, as if they cohere as 8!

Re:genre?
The excipulum is indeed very difficult to see, and sections are far from easy because the fungus is very soft. There is an angularis in stipe and on flanks, the cells are surrounded by pale yellowish exudate. Totally different from a Calycina.

I see that I do not have the collection data. Was the branch on the ground? What type f forest?

Re:genre?
Merci Zotto,

Re:genre?
Dear Jean Pierre

thanks for this precision. You do not have a macro of the apothecia on Rubus?

I looked again at the apothecia and found that a few mature asci were still alive after 10 days dry, so the fungus is xerotolerant. I also tested again with KOH, the yellow exudate totally dissolves, which I overlooked at first. This resembles soluble exudates as in Ionomidotis.

Is the date 12.12.09 correct?

Re:genre?
yes, both fungi have an angiohymenial development, the disc is closed at an early stage.

Perhaps Encoelia fuckelii is related, but I am not sure if this is angiohymenial. But E. fimbriata is closed when young, and also Cenangium. Godronia looks also similar when very young.

But this yellow KOH-soluble exudate I know only in I. fulvotingens.

Re:genre?
I made a mistake, the last photo of Jean Pierre shows the anamorph of this fungus. It has narrowly hyphoid Coryne-like phialides with small rod-shaped conidia. So this is also a strong similarity to the anamorph seen in Encoelia fuckelii (Encoelia fuckelii, HB 3964.JPG).
