Jean Pierre DechaumePeut-il s'agir de Microglossum rufescens?
Les spores sont de 12 à 15 ? x 4 ?. Paraphyses minces, à peine épaissies au sommet.

Re:Microglossum
Microglossum is a very difficult genus. Such brownish fruitbodies are very interesting and possibly rather rare. I have once seen a collection sent by JP Priou which had such a colour and contrary to M. olivaceum the asci were without croziers (see my DVD).

In what medium did you prepare the spores, lactophenol? The characteristic oil drops are completely invisible. Please use water as medium for ascomycetes in the future.

Re:Microglossum
The crucial question is the absence or presence of croziers which is only clearly seen if the asci are not detached. I would very much like to see this collection in fresh state. From 1. January I will be at home again. If it is still fresh or you are able to collect it again, here is my address:

Re:Microglossum

Re:Microglossum
Croziers are the same as clamps in Basidiomycetes, at the base of the asci rep. basidia. This feature is not easy to see if unexperienced, but it is an unequivocal character. If you have dried your specimen, you must make a squash mount of a small piece of hymenium in KOH and search for unbroken asci, to see if the ascus base has one or two septa.

In any case I would like to send you my DVD (if you don´t have it) on which you can find quite many images of Microglossum. Pleas etell me your address.

Re:Microglossum
Thank you very mutch.

two green Microglossums
Dear colleagues,
I need your help in determination of two clearly different species of green-colored Microglossums.
The first one collected on Isl. Gogland (Gulf of Finland, Russia) in black alder forest among hepatics just near a small spring, 08.08.2006. Fruitbodies up to 3 cm high, olivaceous green with bluish hue at the stipe base. Sterile and fertile parts are sharply demarcated. Stipe finely squamulose.
Asci clavate, 100-110(-120) x 7-9 mkm, without crozier, with LG+ apical ring (purplish, soon becoming dark blue to nearly black). Ascospores (14,5-)17-20 x 4,5 mkm, subfusiform, curved, non septate, with several (usually 4) large lipid bodies.

two green Microglossums 2
The second species was collected in Pskov region, Russia, in Calamagrostis epigeios stand, 14.09.2006.
Fruitbodies 5-8 cm high, 0,5-0,7 cm broad, clavate or cylindric, green to bluish green. Stipe concolorous with fertile part or more olivaceous, absolutely smooth. The border between stipe and hymenium not so obvious as in previous species.
Asci clavate, 80-85(-100) x (6,5-)7,5-8,5 mkm, with crozier, with LG+ apical ring (blue). Ascospores ellipsoid to subfusoid, curved or not, 10-14(-15) x 3,5-4 mkm, with 2-4 large lipid bodies.
This species do not fit the concept of M. viride as accepted in available for me literature, but I do not know any other green colored Microglossum.
