Phaeosphaeria again...fuckelii?
Björn Wergen, 19-04-2011 21:05
Björn WergenHi,

just a short question: Is this Phaeosphaeria fuckelii? The only problem is the spore size quiet different from Ellis&Ellis (1998): "20-30x4-5µm". I found it on Phragmites australis (i think it IS P. australis, it is definitely a grass).

thanks and regards,
kazuya

Hi Kazama,
Yes it's a very strange and interesting recolt. Ascospores are exactly the extending copy os fuckelii's ones. No species fits well.
Have you seen a sheath around ascospores ?

Perhaps see towards P. punctillum-caricis...

Re:Phaeosphaeria again...fuckelii?
Hi Alain,

no, i did not see a sheath, but they are of course a "copy" of P. fuckelii's spores...and 34-41 µm long, growing on Phragmites. My literature is not sufficient to determine these species, I just collected all of your data about Phaeosphaeria, but there is no "P. puncillum-caricis". I need a key for Phaeosphaeria or some literature about...

And I am very interested in finding out which species this is...always!
regards,
Kazuya

Re:Phaeosphaeria again...fuckelii?
I looked for something on the net and found data about a "Phaeosphaeria caricis", which has spores about 25-30x4-5 µm (Ellis&Ellis) but (32-)34-39(-46) x 4-6 µm on "fungi.life.illinois.edu" which fits well to my recolt.

I will send you docs today (perhaps tonight).
Size fits well for caricis, but you'll see that the form doesn't fit very well. See my fiche in database.
Perhaps punctillum would be better but some authors give them synonyme... I will research.
