Another Pyrenopeziza - on Carex
Andreas Gminder, 03-07-2012 08:04
Andreas GminderDear Pyrenopezizologists ;-))

hitherto I have not found a Pyrenopeziza on grass or sedge, although our friend Bernard lists this host in his provisional Pyrenopeziza-key (on Zottos DVD).
In this key there are only two species: A spec. 2 on Glyceria with small spores and a P. fuscescens on Carex with bigger spores.

The shown collection was made on Carex spec. (or Luzula) in the alpine area (2100 m NN), Italy, Jaufenpass.
I had not much time to study it, but have seen quite unconspicious marginal cells and small spores. If it wasn't on Carex, I would take it simply for P. escharodes agg. But I failed to note something about the paraphyses, I have to verify this with the exsiccate. B.t.w., the apothecia were very small, appr. 0,2-0,3 mm in diam.

Anyone else who ever found a Pyrenopeziza on Carex/Luzula?

best regards,
Andreas

Re : Another Pyrenopeziza - on Carex
Hi Andreas,

some time ago I made a list of Pyrenopeziza-species that are known from Carex sp. Maybe it helps you.

?Pyrenopeziza carduorum (Carex acutiformis)
Pyrenopeziza cervinula (Carex sp.)
Pyrenopeziza fuscescens (Carex bigelowii, C. pendula [C. maxima])
Pyrenopeziza karstenii var. caricis (Carex sp.)
Pyrenopeziza multipuncta (Carex echinata [C. stellulata])
Pyrenopeziza pubescens (Carex panicea)
Pyrenopeziza perminuta (=Hysteropeziza pusilla) (Carex brizoides, C. paniculata)
Pyrenopeziza rigidae (Carex bigelowii)

Pyrenopeziza corcellensis is known from Luzula luzuloides (L. albida, L. nemorosa).

Best wishes,?
Gernot
