I found this ascomycete at the base of a dead fern
Hymenoscyphus calycinoides ?
Nicolas VAN VOOREN,

Re : Hymenoscyphus calycinoides ?
Hi Nicolas
Are these black dots inside the cells? ;-)
To become more sure about this you need to search for a living ascus and to look if the spores are septate within or not. The paraphyses look alive and do not contain the VBs that calycinoides has.
I also see a 3-septate spore on your pic which is certainly an overmature one.
In any case, I have not an idea what you have.

Spores are septate in asci. You're right also concerning the overmature spores, they can be 2 or 3-septate.

Re : Hymenoscyphus calycinoides ?
But did you see living asci? It does not help if you saw them in dead asci. Then they may still be ejected when non-septate. You have no photo of the asci?
So what can we conclude about your fungus? Can you say if the substrate is coniferous or not?

Re : Hymenoscyphus calycinoides ?
The collection comes from decideous wood.
I'll try to make another collection to verify all the characters, including the spores in living asci.
