This Scutellinia was on rotten wood in a damp woodland.Apothecia 5-7mm
Two types of hair the marginal hairs maximum of 620 with thich walls and septate and a simple or bi-furcate base
Others paler and non septate and broader (max 45um)
The spores average 22 x 12.2 Q 1.8
With a Q of less than 2 S cejpii was ruled out
so the best I can suggest is S heterosculpturata but this does not grow on wood.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

what do you think of s. subhirtella? i think the ornamentation (mediumsized, isolated warts) fits quite well!

Thanks for that. It is one that I considered but the hair width put me off. Looking now the spores do look good for that species.

So, in fact, in my first impression, I think that is perhaps cejpii. Is it on coniferous wood ?
Perhaps, it's another species... But, spores are inequilateral in one of your photos and sporal ornementation could be correspond. The Q of cejpii is > 1.7, sometimes >2, but not always !
I don't know... Could you send me this specimen (with the collection of "Scutellinia setosa" in your other message) ?

if we consider the first spore-foto of malcolm in cotton blue, its hard for me to believe, that this can be ceijpi.
in my only collection of the species i made the spores were v e r y narrow and had an extremly rough and irregular ornamentation.

I want to verify an hypothesis on habitat of S. cejpii : generally in coniferous or mixed forest, on soil, needles or coniferous wood, in mountain areas, or areas with a similar climate (rain > 1500 m and humid air always)...etc. For me, it's an acidophil species.

what you say about ecology is very close to the ecology of my cejpii-collection!
it was indeed on the ground in picea-forest (edge of forest road), ca. 500m altitude in "thüringer wald". a quite cold and humid place ... 22-8-11, after heavy rainfalls.
and yes: acid ground.
