Mycoparasite of Pyrenomycete?
Steve Clements, 07-06-2026 12:43
Bojour.

This was a strange find on a stick on my allotment garden in Sheffield, UK.

On slicing the top of a pyrenomycete I was surprised by the intense yellow colour of the ascocarp.  However there was jelly present.  There was no sign of asci. Instead, there was what seems to be a conidial parasite. The "conidia" are hyaline, long, tapering, multiseptate, base sometimes conjoined. Base width up to 5 um, length to 90 um or longer.  The yellow cortex did not show much on microscopy.

Re : Mycoparasite of Pyrenomycete?
Merci Viktorie,

That looks like a good match.  I am using Microfungi on Miscellaneous Substrate by Ellis & Ellis 1998. I couldn't find a match in that.

There have been 6 records of Eutypa flavovirens in our local area (70km x 70 km) 1924-2007.
