Pseudophacidium necans?
Stefan Blaser, 14-12-2013 11:11
Hello everybody

I identified this discomycete as Pseudophacidium necans. However, I would like to have some confirmation on my identification. Generally, characters and measurements (see pics) fit quite well with the description I have from M.C. Egger (Morphologie und Biologie von Pseudophacidiumarten). Paraphyses are more pointed compared to the drawing in Egger and inward looking cells from the cover layer are sometimes also pointed and slender (pic3). I identified the substrate as Buxus based on wood anatomy (pic7).
Are there any othe species that should be considered, or do you think it fits?

Thanks, Stefan

Re : Pseudophacidium necans?
Hi Stefan

this could be Pseudophacidium cf. necans (HB 5211 & 3943). Are your spores around 15-20 x 5-8? Slight variation in spore size is visible on the photos and drawings I have in my necans folder. The tapering paraphyses and the swollen periphyses (cells inside the lobes) might be characteristic.

I do not remember why I was unsure. There is also an anamorph that I saw 8see below).

Re : Pseudophacidium necans?
Hi Zotto

Yes, Spores fit perfectly to that range. So, without strong opposition I think I name it P. necans. Thanks a lot.

Please tell us the spore size you have found. It could be important for future comparison.

Re : Pseudophacidium necans?
Sure, Sorry:

15-19 x 6.5-8 is what I noted

This fits perfectly :-)
I think now that my drawings belong to the same species.
