Pyrenomycete on Propolis farinosa
Gernot Friebes, 23-02-2014 14:59
Hi,

here I have a conspicuous fungus which I haven't been able to identify despite its quite remarkable features. It grows out of apos of Propolis farinosa which in turn grew on a decorticated Fagus branch approx. 2 m above the ground. The ascomata are quite irregular in shape, soft, black, and without a clearly visible ostiole. The asci are very thin-walled without an apical apparatus and do not react in lugol. Ascospores measure 37-47 x 2,5-3,5 µm and are one-septate when dead.

Any ideas are welcome!

Best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot,

there has been a species like this found by Susana:

http://www.ascofrance.com/search_forum/21890

I have received the collection to study it, but there is no idea until now. I think your collection is something similar and not exactly the same. Did you look at Tubeufiaceae?

regards,
björn

Re : Pyrenomycete on Propolis farinosa
Hi Björn,

right, I forgot about that thread. Susana's find looks somewhat similar indeed. However I'm not sure if the morphology of the asci of my find fits well for the Tubeufiaceae. Strange fungus...

Best wishes,
Gernot
