Pezizella alniella
Yannick Mourgues, 02-12-2007 19:12
Yannick MourguesBonsoir.

Description :

Macro :

Micro :
Spores fusiformes, lisses, hyalines, 2 guttules, parfois bissériées, 10,9-13x2,8-3,4 um

Ci-joint quelques photos.
Merci par avance.

Re:Pezizella alniella
Here is something near Pezizella alniella. What bothers me is that :
1. It's color is cream-yellowish. Mine was white first, and only cream-yellowish after three days in the fridge.
2. Paraphyses of mine are covered at top with something like gel that bind all together. We haven't this for Pezizella alniella.

What do you think about that ?

Description upside.

Thank's a lot.

Re:Pezizella alniella
Dear Yannick
many Helotiales have some gel around their paraphyses which is only seen by certain staining agents. F.ex. in Cresyl blue you often get a lilac stain around the cells of the excipulum and also paraphyses. Anyhow, the paraphyses are separable and do only slightly adhere to each other.

P. alniella is better named Calycellina alniella. A feature typical of that genus but not existent in the close genus Calycina (= Pezizella) is that also the spores are covered by a gel that stains lilac in Cresyl blue, and that often rather strikingly. If you have CRB please test it by adding to a water mount. I have an image of another species (Phialina separablils) showing this feature.

There occur further species on Alnus conse like Calycellina leucella with longer spores, and an undescribed Calycellina with heterosporous asci. From your images I think you have typical C. alniella. If you look at living apraphyses you see Mollisia-like VBs inside, and these cause by oxidation some change to cream-ochraceous of the fresh white apothecia.

Re:Pezizella alniella
Dear Zotto.

Thank's a lot for these informations.
I try to see this gel around spores with CRB, but I don't see it. The worst of it is that many of them appears to be 1-septate...
I don't understand.
