Trichopeziza on Elytrigia
Yatsiuk Iryna, 23-06-2015 13:04
Yatsiuk IrynaHello!
I collected this Trichopeziza(?) on dead stems of Elytrigia. Its habitus looks like familiar to me, but spores found to be rather small and slender, comparing to all Trichopezizas I could find in literature.
Spores are (6.6) 7.3 (9.0)-(1.1.)1,3 (1.4) um in size. Asci with no croziers, with negative reaction in Lugol.
Hairs septate, sometimes with brown lumps (see photos).
Does anyone have an idea about this?

Thank you very much,
Irina

Re : Trichopeziza on Elytrigia
Hi Irina

yes, these fungi are difficult. I know them on exposed substrate, i.e. drought-tolerant.

I have a folder namesd "Trichopeziza with brown lumps", and I suspect that Trichopeziza subsulphurea may occur yellow and cream. But this is only a hypothesis.

There appear to exist more species of TRichopeziza than hitherto known, and the distinction is difficult without genetic methods.

Re : Trichopeziza on Elytrigia
Hi Zotto,
I looked to this folder on DVD. In general it looks like yellow T. subsulphurea. But in the descriptions there are croziers and blue/red-blue reaction in IKI. In my specimen there is no croziers for sure and reaction is negative.
So at the moment it remains another interesting finding that needs to be genetically studied...

Thank you,
Irina

Re : Trichopeziza on Elytrigia
Oh, I was looking mainly to your pics, not your text, sorry!
Would be good to figure these characters. Inamyloid asci are rare in this genus.
My T. urticae is the only I know, and also lacks croziers, but I never saw brown lumps there, and the spores have larger LBs.
