Hello all,In an attempt to make a culture of a suspected infection of Entomophthora scatophagae on Scathophaga stercoraria, another Zygomycete developed on the insect.
The fungus strongly resembled Spinellus fusiger in habitus, but the sporangia were much smaller in size:
(19.1) 19.5 - 36.4 (41.2) × (18.6) 18.7 - 36.3 (39.4) µm
Q = 1 - 1.1 (1.2) ; N = 8
Me = 28.6 × 27.2 µm ; Qe = 1.1Â
The sporangiophores were sparsely branched.
The sporangia contained conidia-like spores:
 (4.6) 4.8 - 6.5 (6.9) × (2.7) 3 - 4 (4.4) µm
Q = (1.3) 1.5 - 1.8 (2.1) ; N = 25
Me = 5.5 × 3.4 µm ; Qe = 1.6
Spherical spores were also present among the conidia-like spores. (Possibly a contamination?)
Does anyone have a suggestion regarding genus/species?
