Bryoscyphus on liverworts in Norway

... in the area of the Dovrefjell National Park, marginal area, in the sw of Opdal, valley "Amotsdalen". The tiny little discomycete was discovered by chance when I had a look at the liverwort-lawn. I do not know the liverwort, but it was tiny and could be a Cephaloziella (?). I still have material of the liverwort, but the mushroom, as a pity, cannot be found any more. I did not take a herbarium specimen, unfortunately. Anyway, I want to show you two pictures and my notices on paper. I also took some microfotos of lower quality that I can add if necessary.

I think this comes very close to Bryoscyphus dicrani and could be a form of it - the spore-form fits well, as the iodine-negative asci do. But the spore size is very large, and the host seems to be a bryophyte. B. dicrani I collected repeatedly, always on Ceratodon purpureus.

Who has seen a similar Bryoscyphus on liverworts?

Regards from Lothar

Hi Lothar

dis you compare Mniaecia-Epiglia? Bryoscyphus has guttulate paraphyses.

Hi Zotto,

thank you! - yes, you are completely right - I did not mention the lack of guttulae in the paraphyses enough. So - no Bryoscyphus. I know Mniaecia jungermanniae quite well, but other species and Epiglia are unknown to me.

Kind regards from Lothar

There are white ones: gloeocapsae and nivea. Look in my folder:

Are the spores as large as you say? Any microphotos?

why not Mniaecia nivea!

Hi Zotto,

thank you very much- I now compared the docus on cubby and in Boudier. And in my opinion Epiglia gloeocapsae and dicranellae can be excluded. But - Mniaecia nivea could fit, in the sense of Boudier. The spores are given as up to 25 long. In my collection some spores (mostly the free ones) where much larger, up to 35, but these were exceptions. 20-25 as average size is o.k. - Yes, I have some fotos and add them here.

Best regards from Lothar
