Micropeziza fenniae new collection
Nina Filippova, 11-08-2015 20:02
Two species of Micropeziza were dercribed recently from leaves of Rhododendron tomentosum, one collected in Siberia (M.curvatispora) and another in Finland (M.fenniae) and i was wondering if these species could be found in one location, which seems to be confermed by my present collection. This means that they are not only geographical species but could be found nearby.

This collection of M.fenniae was collected in 500 m distance from the collection of M.curvatispora; in bog community on leaves of Rhododendron tomentosum (quite similar plant community to where the M.curvatispora was found). It's morphological difference with M.curvatispora is quite distant: asci with croziers, spores shorter and not curved, it seems to have pustulare rather than cupulate apothecia. I have studied only one apothecium and failed to observed grayish spores, as it was mentioned in the first description (the collection is very scarce, only 5 apothecia on a single leaf).

Apothecia pustulate, 200-400 mk across, up to 60 mk thick, 5 growning nearby on a single leaf; asci broadly clavate, with crozier, with euamyloid ring, *86 (76-92) x 15 (14-16) mk; paraphyses cylindrical about *2 mk, branched and enlarged in upper part (*3-6 mk), tips contain greenish VBs stained in IKI to orange-brown; spores ellipsoid-fusoid, filled with oil drops, *13.7 (12.4-15.5) x 5.7 (5.2-6.2), Q=2.4 (n=25).

Wonderful Nina!

Your collection of M. fenniae makes me wonder, weather I could find M. curvatispora somewhere here...
