You are right, under the micro they are identical, except for the carotenoids. And they like to grow together.
Therefore we took the oldest name, Orbilia leucostigma, which originally meant only the white form.
Genetically this group is highly diverse, in spite of the constant microscopy. But the colour of the apothecia was often not noted in the sequenced samples which mainly come from New Zealand and USA.
