Lichenicolous fungus on Pertusaria pertusa - 2015-10-03
Lepista Zacarias, 06-10-2015 20:04
Hi everyone,
I found this lichenicolous fungus growing on the thallus of Pertusaria pertusa. It is a pyrenomycete having simple spores with many guttules inside, of dimensions:
(19.9) 21.3 - 25.8 (27) x (9.5) 10.6 - 12.6 (13.8) µm
Q = (1.7) 1.8 - 2.3 (2.5) ; N = 30
Me = 24.2 x 11.6 µm ; Qe = 2.1 .
The list of lichenicolous fungus on Pertusaria is very long, as can be seen for instance in Lichenicolous net. I have tried without success to find there anything similar.
Anyone have any suggestion of what this could be?
Thanks in advance,
zaca

Dear Zaca,
I would not say this fungus is a lichenicolous one! The lichen is Pertusaria pertusa as you say but the fungus seems to be an stromatic lignicolous growing under the lichen. I do not know it.
Best wishes. Javier

Thanks, Javier.
I think that you must be right, but my first impression was that it was lichenicolous.
Maybe someone else has an idea of what it could be.

zaca

Javier is right, I think that it could be a Botryosphaeria species, a lignicolous fungus.

Thanks, Alain, for helping me once more.
After your comment I search for information and found the site
http://www.crem.fct.unl.pt/botryosphaeria_site/index.htm
where I could see some species similar to my specimen. Unfortunately, the key present there is based on the properties of conidia, which I didn't observe.
Best regards,
zaca
