This one was found more than a year ago on a 2.5 cm thick decorticated branch of Populus tremula. Today I saw this thread on http://ascofrance.com/search_forum/30414 which looks much like my fungus.
Stroma immersed in blackened wood,
Asci: 8-spored, but it looks like some are 4-sporered after aborting some.
Spores: (11.5) 13.9 - 17.5 (19.1) × (2.4) 2.7 - 3.3 (4.1) µm; Q = (3.8) 4.3 - 6.1 (7.1) ; N = 30; Me = 15.6 × 3 µm ; Qe = 5.2
I have read Rappaz's article on Anthostomella and related Xylariaceous fungi on hardwoods, and using the key presented there it comes out as B. moravica. This species is supposed to grow on Salix, but it is mentioned a similar collection from USA with a bit larger spores found on Populus. The spore size of mine seems to be in between the two.
Is it the correct genus or is it something else?
