Scutellinias
Malcolm Greaves, 01-06-2017 01:55
Malcolm GreavesI found a group of three fruit bodies within a couple of inches of each other on mud at the side of a woodland walk. Two were a little "moth eaten" but the spores confirmed quickly Scutellinia legaliae. I then tried to get a picture of the marginal hairs from the third specimen only to find it was S umbrorum.
My question is it usual to find two species like this so close together?

Re : Scutellinias
Hello Malcolm,

It is not uncommon for two species to grow together, or one by one to exactly the same place.

Thanks Ralph. I suppose that means collecting/examining every fruit body I come across.

If there is only the smallest difference. And according to your gut feeling.
