Hairy balls
Dragiša Savic, 19-06-2017 13:50
Hello, any help is appreciated.
These very small hairy balls I found on rotting leaves of fern Asplenium scolopendrium.
Maybe Lasionectria sp.

Re : Hairy balls
Dear Savic,
do ascomata change colour in 3% KOH or lactic acid?

Regards,
Christian

Re : Hairy balls
could you check the ornamentation of ascospores in coton blue? are they smooth, striate or spinulose? Ornamentation is sometime very difficult to see.

I do not see any ornamentation, it means smooth.

Re : Hairy balls
if the ascospores are smooth, I don't know what it is but it could be the genus Lasionectria.  I have two collections resembling your fungus but with striate ascospores. It would be necessary to culture it  to know its asexual morph. Could you please to send me a part of your collection?
A lot of thanks in advance.
