Good evening everyone,

On dung of deer I found a small Ascobolus barrel-shaped, with a light yellow colour ,asci of about 95x16µ and warted ellipsoid spores of about 24x10.5µ. A part of the excipulum had a brown colour.

Spores seemed to large for hawaiiensis. Following the key in Van Brummelen I arrived at boudieri

Hi Marc
I think it is nearest to A. hawaiensis

Hello Marc!

I am also thinking of A.hawaiiensis.

Michel.

Re : Ascobolus cf boudieri

Hello Enrique and Michel,

The large warts are indeed an argument pro hawaiiensis, but following Doveri and Van Brummelen the spores are too large (max 20.5-21µ) and the brown excipulum should also point towards boudieri ( key Van Brummelen 1967, 67-68).

Are the warts the most important element?
