Ayuda con un Helotial
Josep Torres, 12-09-2019 16:57
Josep TorresHola.
(9.2) 10 - 12.5 (13) × (4.7) 4.9 - 5.3 (5.7) µm
Q = (1.8) 2.1 - 2.5 (2.6) ; N = 30
Me = 11.2 × 5.1 µm ; Qe = 2.2
Saludos cordiales.

Hymenoscyphus kathiae?

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Yes, but the low oil content in the spores points to the very similar H. imberbis.

Saludos cordiales.

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Substrate is rather unimportant and the blue reaction at the apo base not constistent as far as I remember. Another idea I do not have. Spore size seems to fit, though at the upper range in width.

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Hi Zotto! Hi Josep!
I wasn't sure?
Oil drops in the spores indicate Hymenoscyphus imberbis.
Spore dimensions are more suitable for H. katiae?

I forgot about my 2018 collection.
Spores slightly smaller but I described it as H. imberbis :)
best regards
Mirek

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Ah, on the same substrate! Not sure how much H. imberbis varies in spore size, but I would say that H. kathiae has just the same spore size as H. imberbis.

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
In the collections I found so far in almost all collections, the spore length was:
H. katiae> 10 um
H. imberbis <10 um

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
H. imberbis is genetically not easy as I remember, and it may be that we are talking of different taxa. My first samples of H. imberbis had spores *11-12.5 x 4.5-5.5 or *9-12 x 3.5-4 (HB 1003, 1007), and various later ones concurred with this. But I see also a short-spored one on Reynoutria (HB 6308). In the dead state the spores are smaller, 8-9.5 µm.

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Oh yes! I meet a lot of collections whose features do not quite correspond to this species.
That's why I put photos of spores only those collections whose other features are 100% compatible with this species.

I used to send you pictures of fruiting bodies in which spores were about 1 um narrower. Other features were consistent with this species.

For me, H. imberbis, H. katiae and H. vernus are common species, but from the collections collected about 70-80% correspond exactly to these species. In others, there are features that are not typical of them?

Spain has a completely different atmosphere, so there may be slight differences in construction? :)

I only study fresh fruiting bodies!

That's right! - your collections have longer spores but other features are compatible with my :)
I have stopped microscoping them but the topic seems interesting enough to download a few more collections and compare their features more accurately!
best regards
Mirek

Re : Ayuda con un Helotial
Different climates may indeed play a role, but my data come mainly from Germany, and Poland does  not much differ in the plant communities. This group needs DNA work, also because anguillospora-like anamorphs are connected to the teleomorphs and will have priority in case no older teleomorph epithet exists.
