Hello Asco friends,
this is my first post in the AF Forum and I ask you experts for support for the determination of my finding:
Found on dry, still standing branches of Vaccinium myrtillus at about 410 m altitude.
The hairless Discomycet has a dark olive-orange to blackish disc, is black on the outside and has a diameter of about 0.15 - 0.25 mm.
The Asci measure about 60-55x 10 my, cylindrical to slightly chaste, ICL + and biseriate.
The spores are hyaline, smooth, broadly elliptical to fusiform and about 14-15.5 x 4.5 -5.5 ym.
The paraphyses are fecal, partly with head tips, septated and +/- (multiple) branched.
Is that sufficient for an assessment?
What could I have found?
I would like to thank you for hints and information on literature sources

Willkommen im Forum!

I know this species from 4 collections on Vaccinium stems. It is a Micropeziza, but there is no available name as far as I know. Look here:


or search in Ascofrance for Micropeziza filicina which might be similar.

Chris Yeates' images are made from a fresh sample in water, and you can see the characteristic VBs in the apices of paraphyses (large greenish-yellowish strongly refractive drops) and the multiguttulate spores.

Your sample is not from the last days?

Könnte ich auch da mehr über die Funddaten erfahren? War das in den Bergen?

Thank you very much for the helpful hints and the lightning-fast identification aid.
I then found and read the successful new description of M.filicina written together with Stip and Uwe. For me, my find in Allen, including the VBs, described micro-datails corresponds to this type.
How do I interpret that?
This is my find Micropeziza cf. filicina, or does Mr Filicina take the completely different substrate Viccinum myrtillus, even if this seems unlikely to me?
If they think it's a new species, I'll wait for the new description to find out the final name.
If you work with Uwe and Stib again, please send your regards, this year the NRW meeting in Alme failed.
...and here the desired find data:
The find is from last Sunday 11.10.2020, on a joint excursion with the APR in 57271 Hilchenbach, (left side) Breitenbachtal on the roadside in the spruce forest. MTB 5014,122. Middle mountain range (foothills of the Rothaargebirge)
On request I send them a tiny branch with some fruit bodies.

thanks for the data. I am notz sure who will describe this species, I have hundreds of species to describe, not knowing where to begin.

I think this genus is too difficult to do it without DNA so only then we will know how host-specific these species are.

So you saw the VBs. No photo?

Yes, the left one shows one possibly living cell with a VB. This sample you surely studied when already dried.
