Dear all,

I found this Nectriopsis? on a Stroma of Nemania serpens.


Macro: Perithecia white, glabrous, subglobose, 130-170 µm broad and 140-180 µm high, very readily collapsing when beginning to dry. When colapsed yellowish.


Micro: Asci cylindrical, 30-37 x 3.5-4 µm, apically flattened, 8-spored. Spores 5-6.5 x 2.4-2.8 µm, two-celled, hyaline, finely verrucose (difficult to see).


I hope that somebody can shed some light on this collection.

Nectriopsis are not glabrous on the outside, but hairy, at least a few hairs.

Hi Stefan,

first of all, we have to know if the ascomata change colour in KOH or lactic acid.

Your first image suggests that there are some hairs on ascomatal wall, could you check this feature?

In addition, an image of a mature ascus with ascospores would be useful.

At first glance, your fungus could be a species of Nectriopsis.

I have indeed found hairs that are thick-walled and 15-25 x 2-3 µm.

I did not observe any color reaction in KOH or lactic acid, however, the specimen has been dry for over 1 months now!!

Alas, asci are in a poor state and I could not find a mature ascus that looks acceptable.

The collection is maybe in a state beyond identification. I can accept that...
