pyrenomycete on algae on lawn of foliose liverwort on rock
Lothar Krieglsteiner, 18-12-2020 18:37
Lothar Krieglsteiner.. 15.12.2020, Germany, Hessen, Rhön, "Schafstein", Blockhalde, n-exposed

Spores about 22-26/8-9 µm, hyaline in H20
Asci eu-amyloid (blue in Baral and in Melzer)

Who has a hint? I do not think the fungus is lichenized.

Best regards, Lothar

Hallo,

to me it looks like Protothelenella sphinctrinoidella,

right this species is regarded for a lichenized fungus but also non-lichenized taxa exist within this genus

this kind of amyloid apex is characteristic of this genus

Hello Zdenek,
thank you very much for your determination and the additional information! I did not expect to get a species determination :-)
The ascomata were nestled in algae, those on dying or already dead liverworts. In the ascomata no algal cells occured. So it is difficult to say which kind of nutrition the fungus has.
Best regards, Lothar
