Peziza retiderma (edit)? on burnt ground
Zuidland Peter,

These large ascomata are on burnt ground in a eucalyptus forest but my images are not as clear as drawings in papers I could find; I ask for a confirmation please.
I think it is Peziza retispora from what I can see described in Rifai(1968) and the spore drawings in Moravec & Spooner (1988).
Asci:255-265 x 11.3-11.6
Spores: variously sized ridges, size without ornamentation 12.1-13.1 x 6.8-7.9um
Paraphyces: septate 2um to 4um at apex.
Cool temperate climate, South Gippsland, Vic, Australia
Many thanks
Peter

Re : Peziza retispora? on burnt ground
Bonjour,
Sans doute Peziza rifai avec une telle ornementation. (= Galactinia retiderma).

Re : Peziza retispora? on burnt ground
Many thanks Gilbert and please excuse my 'typo' error, I meant to type P.retiderma and I was comparing it with P.vacinii.
I got confused by the two names P.rifaii and P.retiderma but I can see now on Index Fungorum that they are the same and Morocev & Spooner wrote: "Peziza rifaii J. Moravec & B. Spooner, sp.nov. (Fig. 2A) Peziza retiderma Cooke sensu Rifai
Again, many thanks for such a rapid reply.

Re : Peziza retiderma (edit)? on burnt ground
For your information, I recently sequenced a collection of P. rifaii (made by Gilbert). This species occupies an isolated position in the Pezizaceae, of course outside the genus Peziza s. str.
It could be interesting to sequence your collection and compare the result with our European collection.

I can get a sample for you, I hope it can be clean enough for a result.
Please provide an address and I will notify when in the post.
