Gyromitra?
Josep Torres, 12-03-2024 14:24
Josep TorresHello.
A single specimen photographed on Sunday at 240 meters above sea level, on the edge of a path and under pines and riverside trees.
Cerebriform ascoma of black color with a dark brown edge, short, full stem, without grooves, with its velvety surface, pinkish cream-colored cut flesh on the stem and white on the cap.
Medullary excipule of intricate texture, external excipule of morphology very similar to the medullary excipule.
Only immature asci observed, presumably octosporic.
Paraphyses filiform, septate, many of them branched, slightly widened at the apex and with brown intracellular pigment.
Immature ascospores inside the ascus with measurements of (13.6) 13.64 - 16.15 (16.2) × 7.4 - 8.37 (8.4) µm. Q = 1.9 - 2.1 ; Qe = 2.
Just because of its color, I think that perhaps it could be Gyromitra melaleuca, I don't know if I'm on the right track.
Any suggestion from you will be welcome.
Thank you very much in advance.
Kind regards.

Re : Gyromitra?
You might consider Gyromitra anthracobia, but without a mature hymenium, this is difficult to be 100% sure...

Re : Gyromitra?
If you would be so kind, please send me a small piece to sequence.  I am trying to sequence every Gyromitra in the World. ;o)

Cheers,
Andy

Re : Gyromitra?
Thanks Nicolás, the curious thing is that there is no trace of burning in the area, in the absence of complete certainty, I leave it open for now as Gyromitra cf. anthracobia.
I admit that he was completely unaware of the existence of the species.
Kind regards.

Re : Gyromitra?
Another Spanish collection without burnt substrate is cited here: https://www.centrodeestudiosmicologicosasturianos.org/?p=57809

Maybe this species is not strictly pyrophilous...

Re : Gyromitra?
Thanks Nicholas.
He had already seen Master Enrique's work, it seems that in his case there were no traces of burning either.
Kind regards.
