I found this Ostropales two weeks ago on a small branch of Carpinus or Corylus ca. 1.5 meters above the ground. The apothezia where grey, embedded and denticulate. I would be very thankful if you could help me with this finding!
Best wishes,
Gernot

Re:Ostropales
Hi,
If you do not have a copy of Martha Sherwood;s monograph of the Ostropalean fungi (Mycotaxon 5: 1-277. 1977, I could mail you one, but it would be expensive. It may be online somewhere as a pdf, I haven't checked.

Re:Ostropales
Hi,
you can find the monograph here: http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/cyberliber/59575/0005/001/0001.htm
Thank you very much for your supply but I will print the paper out by the time. It is too annoying for me to open plenty different pages until I find what I want ;).
Best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot,
Is your fungus immersed in a lichen thallus ?

Re:Ostropales
Hi Alain,
I do not think so, the only thing is that some apothezia are between algae but not all of them. Unfortunately I do not find a good possibility with Sherwood's work but tomorrow I will try to make better macroscopical pictures.
Best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot,
I thought at Ocellularia cruenta (in Sherwood noticed in Stictis genus p. 169) but only you can agree or not, ...Gernot , you have it in your hands.

Re:Ostropales
Hi Alain,
O. cruenta seems to be a good tip, thanks! The only thing which does not fit very well is the missing sheath around the spores but I have still apothezia left so I can check it again.
Enclosed two new photos which show that the apos are not always immersed a lichen thallus.
Best wishes,
Gernot

Re:Ostropales
Hi,
I checked the spores again, there is no sheath around the spores. Besides, the margin should be reddish within O. cruenta. I really do not like Ostropales...

Yes, you're right, it's not O. cruenta.
