I recently found a collection of small Peziza sp. growing in a loose clump of about ten specimens in a sandy grassland near Loppem, Belgium. The grassland is grazed by sheep, and the Pezizas' habitat could possibly be a urine sanctuary.
Using Spooner's (2001) preliminary key, I'm suggesting P. granulosa, but I wouldn't rule out fimeti either.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Macroscopic:
- Apothecia fawn-brown
- Apothecia up to 18 mm in diameter
- Apothecia sessile on the bottom
- somewhat grainly and finely scurfy
Microscopic (in water on living material):
- Spores smooth, without oil droplets: (17.5-)19.2(-21.0) x (9.7-)10.45(-11.1) (N=20; in sporee)
- Paraphyses straight with swollen apical cell
- Paraphyses hyaline, filled with oil droplets, contents in water preparation not yellowing
Thank you for any help,
William
